Cool Stuff

Old aborigonal playing didgeridoo to techno music at Circular Quay, Sydney. This is very original and I think it is awesome how different instruments can act for different genres depending on the person and their influence of music.
This is an incredible art. Let's get this started in the US!! It is interesting how they use the 'pole' in other cultures. In America it can have the connotation of a pole dance. In India, it is used as an art form.

I guess you can really make a drum out of anything. This guy is a street performer. He shows use in pots and pans, trash cans, and more. It is really interesting to see him do different rhythms.

I like the stuff that you found. I think the idea of adding old and new music is always neat and usually has a very interesting sound. One example that I can think of is classical instruments being used in pop music. I know that some newer songs that are out have a cellist playing along which of course I think sounds cool. I also love street performers! That guy is amazing!

That street performer was amazing! I'm always surprised by how much talent there is in the world. And I've never seen a pole used like that before. It looks like it would take a lot of time and patience to get really good at it. It was different, but I liked it.

The Drummer is amazing! Some of the things he is using, I would never have thought to make a drum out of them. That was awesome!

These were really cool! The pole gymnastic video completely gave me a different perspective..I guess there's more potential to a pole than just using it for pole dancing. Heh.

Idiophone is my favorite kind of phone, because it's easy to identify haha, but at the same time, it takes some heck of a talent to make music out of it :). Kudos to the street performer!

ok so that pole dancing is probably one of the coolest things I've ever seen. I've been around a lot of strippers here in America and none of them could do anything like that. That takes so much talent and strength. You should check out the Australian pole dancing competitions. There are some awesome people on that too. Its nice to find people that consider it an artform, and a way to exercise instead of just naughty. :)

Some really interesting stuff, Mary. Two things to point out, though: 1. That wasn't an "old aborigonal" playing the didgeridu. It was a fairly young man. 2. The assignment is to find cool stuff that has to do with the cultures we discussed that week--in this case, Africa and Native America. Ahem.

The street performer was pretty rad. Have you ever seen or heard of Stomp? They're a group of musicians that do similar things. It's pretty awesome. The Blue Man Group also drums on some nonconventional things, like PVC pipe. I really love that sort of "out of the box" drumming.
